i'm so excited about this. practice writing out aummm with chinese brush and ink.
okay, i have to give credit where credit is due. i didn't come up with the idea. thank you, anne, my fellow chinese yogi.
there we are, hanging out. as i sip yuan yang, a classical hong kong drink, a mix of coffee and tea, i recall something about anne. among many of her outstanding accomplishments she is skilled in chinese calligraphy.
i say, anne, i have such poor handwriting, you have to teach me some time.
always modest but never faint-hearted, anne shows me how to hold a writing brush on the spot. while adjusting my fingers and wrist i say jokingly, i wonder if i can write aum with this.
anne says with great authority, o yeah, this would be really great for it, the lines and all that.
in my study so far i only see aummm as the symbol with curves. so i say, what do you mean 'lines?'
anne says, you have to look at the word.
so, now, the morning after, i have laid out the pictures of the word itself, vowel, consonant and so on and so forth, on one side of a beautiful wooden tray. one the other side is an exquisite chinese inkstone, by courtesy of...who else but hwubby:) he walks into my room with it while i am doing the yawny breath exercise. he chuckles and says, i've never heard anybody do it so loud, everybody can hear you in the catskills. i shrug. he says, you are so weird but i love you so much. i say, what to do?!
i am on my way. it's gonna be a lot of fun.
